Unique Olive Wood
Fresh, crisp fruit served from your unique bowl, or delicious antipasti and cheese cubes on a beautiful board. Whether it’s a cutting board for juicy beef, a breakfast board for the perfect start to the day, a spatula for your vegetable pan, coasters for cold drinks, or a wooden spoon and ladle for hot soup – you are guaranteed to find the perfect piece for you here.
No wood is currently as popular as olive wood – but why is that? Hardly any other type of wood offers so many advantages and is so perfectly suited for household use. It has exceptional hardness, making it cut-resistant and extremely durable. Olive wood is gentle on the surfaces of coated pans and pots. Fats or acids from fruit do not damage the wood, and it does not absorb odors. And of course, olive wood is popular for another reason as well: each product impresses with its beautiful appearance, and the unique grain makes every item a true one-of-a-kind.
The Origin of the Olive Tree: Where Does It Come From?
The olive tree is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. It is believed to have been grown as early as 4000 BC. The olive tree (also known as the oil tree) can live for centuries, with some specimens being over 1,000 years old, which results in exceptionally dense wood.
Olive wood products are typically made from trees that are more than 100 years old and no longer produce fruit. Due to this long and slow growth, the wood becomes particularly hard – often up to 60% harder than conventional oak.
Why Are Olive Wood Products So Popular?
There are many reasons why olive wood is one of the most popular types of wood across Europe. As you have already learned, the wood is highly scratch- and cut-resistant, making it ideal for use in the kitchen. This natural material is extremely durable and wears down very slowly, so you will rarely, if ever, need to replace your olive wood product.
In addition, olive wood does not scratch other materials and is therefore perfect for use with high-quality non-stick cookware. Many kitchen accessories tend to absorb odors or even allow bacteria to penetrate their pores. Olive wood, however, is resistant to hot fats and acids and tolerates natural cleaning agents very well. But one of the most important reasons for its popularity is, of course, its unique appearance: the beautiful and individual grain of each olive wood product makes your cutting board, bowl, or cutlery a real eye-catcher.
Production
We use sustainably sourced olive wood from olive trees that no longer bear fruit. Processing this wood is a true craft, with great care taken to create a perfect product with a unique design from the beautiful grain of each piece. Much of the production is still done by hand, giving every single item its own individual look.
The quality of olive wood is exceptionally high, which is why special attention is paid during processing to ensure that every handcrafted piece meets our high standards before being offered in our shop.
The Best Products
Which products are olive wood particularly well suited for? Thanks to its exceptional hardness and its resistance to absorbing odors and fats, we have chosen olive wood primarily for the production of kitchen utensils.
A cutting board, for example, is the perfect olive wood product. It is cut-resistant and therefore does not show knife marks or scratches. It absorbs no odors, and fruit acids cannot harm the surface. In our shop, you will find cutting boards in unique oval shapes and various sizes.
These advantages also apply to our bowls. You can serve fresh fruit or nuts to your guests while the bowl remains hygienically clean. And beyond functionality, every olive wood item is a true one-of-a-kind and a beautiful visual highlight. Purchasing an olive wood board guarantees a high-quality, unique product that will accompany you for many years to come.
The Right Care
Simple care goes a long way! You can easily clean your olive wood favorites with a damp cloth. For heavier soiling, a small amount of dish soap or a sponge will do the trick. However, boards, bowls, and cutlery should never be placed in the dishwasher – just like other wooden products.
As you can see, another great advantage is the simple cleaning. To extend the lifespan even further, regular oiling is recommended. Simply rub your olive wood products with a small amount of olive oil to give them a beautiful renewed look while keeping them hygienic and smooth. What more could you want?
