Potato masher with beechwood handle: mash cooked potatoes and vegetables by hand

If you like your mashed potatoes with a little texture, this is the tool to reach for: the 36 cm potato masher combines a natural beechwood handle with an open head formed from metal wires. It measures approx. 36 × 9 × 6 cm, weighs approx. 120 g and is made from beechwood and metal. It is suitable for crushing sufficiently soft cooked potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, celeriac, parsnips and kohlrabi; soft beans, peas, chickpeas and suitable fruits can also be mashed in small batches. The final result depends on the variety, cooking time, quantity and duration of mashing: brief use retains more texture, while extended mashing creates a finer mixture. For mashed potatoes, cook the potatoes until fully soft before gradually adding milk, butter or other ingredients – excessive working may encourage a sticky texture in starchy potatoes. Raw root vegetables, frozen food, hard stones and dense doughs are not suitable, and the tool is not a stick blender and will not produce a completely homogeneous soup. As the mashing head is made from metal, only use it in coated cookware when the manufacturer specifically permits metal utensils, as heavy pressure and sideways movement may damage delicate surfaces. The metal wire model is best suited to robust pans and mixing bowls; a potato masher made entirely from beechwood is available as an alternative for particularly sensitive containers. Use the masher only with sufficiently soft cooked food, make sure the container stands securely and does not move, and do not strike hard ingredients or the base of the pan with excessive force. Do not leave it inside a hot saucepan or use it in an oven, microwave or over an open flame, and avoid direct contact with a hot hob. Before every use, check that the wooden handle is free from cracks and splinters and that the metal wires are firmly attached; do not continue using the product if the metal becomes bent, corroded, sharply damaged or loose. This potato masher is a kitchen utensil and not a toy.

OPEN METAL WIRES FOR RUSTIC TEXTURES: The wave-shaped head presses cooked ingredients against the base and side of the container, and the open construction produces a coarse to medium texture depending on cooking time and amount of mashing. It is intended for anyone who prefers a more traditional, lightly textured result – a finely perforated masher or potato ricer may be more suitable for completely smooth and even purée.

36 CM LENGTH FOR TALLER PANS: The long handle provides useful reach inside taller saucepans and larger mixing bowls, and at approximately 120 g the masher remains lightweight and easy to control. Place the container on a stable, non-slip surface and use steady vertical movements – sideways levering or excessive force may strain the wires, their connection or the cookware.

A NATURAL BEECHWOOD HANDLE: The handle provides a warm, natural feel and creates a calm contrast with the metal head. As wood is a natural material, its colour, grain and minor surface features may vary slightly from one item to another – these differences form part of the product’s natural appearance. Hofmeister supplies the masher in plastic-free packaging and has its wooden products made in European family-run workshops.

ENGRAVED AS A GIFT OR PROMOTIONAL ITEM: The beechwood handle can be personalised with laser engraving or hot branding on request – short names, initials, dates, small messages and simplified logos are particularly suitable. This turns it into an individual gift for a housewarming, wedding, birthday or Christmas, and combined with an apron, seasoning or serving board it becomes a coordinated kitchen present. With a company logo it suits farm shops, potato growers, cookery schools, holiday accommodation, hotels, catering businesses and food producers; for larger production runs, agree the engraving area, design size, quantity and packaging in advance. The metal wires and their fixing area remain free from personalisation.

CLEANING AND CARE: Clean promptly after use, by hand only, with warm water, a mild detergent and a soft sponge or suitable brush, carefully removing residue from between the metal wires and around the connection to the wooden handle. Do not soak or place in a dishwasher; dry thoroughly and allow to air-dry completely. When required, apply a small amount of care oil suitable for wooden kitchen utensils to the dry handle – do not apply oil to the metal wires or their fixing.

Soft cooked potatoes, a knob of butter, a splash of milk and a few steady movements with the beechwood handle in your hand: that is how your mash turns out exactly the way you like it.
